Celebrating Cricket in Schools Award

Southern Cross Catholic College, Annandale has won Cricket Australia's and Queensland Cricket's 'Celebrating Cricket in Schools Award' for the 2023/24 season! This award is an amazing thrill for the many students and staff who have contributed to the growth and development of Cricket at the College in recent years. Antony Stewart and Lachlan Ford from Queensland Cricket recently attended an assembly to present the awards. The College community already knew about the state award however the national award came as an enormous surprise to all on the day!

Cricket has become a mainstream sport at Southern Cross Catholic College in recent years enjoyed by both boys and girls from Years 3 - 12. Students learn and enjoy Cricket in Health and Physical Education lessons and also have the opportunity to represent the College in the sport at both primary and secondary school levels. The College has regularly participated in annual Primary Blast Cups and Secondary Schools Challenges, with both primary and secondary boys and girls teams having achieved regional champion school status on several occasions. The most recent highlight of Cricket at Southern Cross Catholic College is our Secondary Academy touring New Zealand in January 2024. The 8 day tour involved the College's open age male and female cricketers taking on several school and club teams in Christchurch and surrounding towns while soaking up the rich culture of our neighbouring country!

Students of Southern Cross Catholic College are very much looking forward to the 2024 School Cricket season coming up in Term 3 and our Secondary Academy eagerly awaits our next New Zealand Tour scheduled for January 2026!
